FAQ’s
Is there a cost to join the Weigh2GoBC program?
Currently there is no cost to join the Weigh2GoBC program. A limited number of transponders are being issued free of charge to carriers at the start of the program. This may change when the current supply of free transponders runs out. In the future, there may be a cost to register for the program and/or to obtain transponders.
What is an RRP?
Random Report Percentage (RRP) is a feature built into the system that may require a vehicle to report to an inspection station randomly, regardless of the outcome of the weights and credential check. It is based on the company’s National Safety Code rating and other factors.
Can I use my PrePass Transponder in the Weigh2GoBC program?
No. However, you can use your Weigh2GoBC transponder in the PrePass system.
I already have a NORPASS transponder in my vehicle, can I register this with Weigh2GoBC?
Yes, you can register NORPASS transponders in the Weigh2GoBC program.
Can I have two transponders in my vehicle? One used for a toll bridge, and one used for Weigh2GoBC?
Yes.
How long does it take to get approved?
Once the completed application is sent to the Registry, approval is usually within 2 business days depending on the number of applications.
How long does it take to register vehicles?
It takes about 24 hrs to be fully on the system after being registered.
Will my PIC transponder work in BC?
Yes. Alberta PIC transponders will be included in the system.
How long is a green light valid for?
A green light is valid for 12 hrs but is always subject to Random Report.
What possible reasons would I get a red light?
A red light would be displayed if:
- the vehicle fails either the weight or credential check or both, at a weigh-in-motion enabled site (WIM),
- the vehicle enters the Weigh2GoBC system corridor at an automated vehicle identification enabled site (AVI),
- the vehicle was selected for random report,
- the vehicle entered on the hotlist.
What is a hotlist?
A vehicle or carrier is manually placed on a hotlist if it requires special attention. For example, a company attempting to communicate with a driver may ask to have the vehicle placed on a hotlist.
What affects the transponder signal?
Incorrect placement of the transponder in the vehicle is the most common cause of no signal. Severe weather such as snow storms may occasionally affect the signal.
Can I check my vehicle encounters on the system?
Yes. Once registered, a company will be able to check individual vehicles encountered by the system using the Transponder Registry System.
