TranBC Thanks Truckers
The postman gets a lot of credit for making his deliveries whatever the weather, but there’s a similar hero who often goes unsung. They travel our nation’s roads 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (in shifts, of course, not all at once). They deliver the freight, food and fuel we need to keep our communities flourishing. They are our truck drivers, and this is their time to be recognized.
September 4 – 10 is National Trucking Week, an event that began with the help of the Canadian Trucking Alliance back in the 1990s. It’s a time to show your gratitude to the hundreds of thousands of men and women who spend their time behind the wheel, collecting kilometres and keeping our economy moving.
And when you think about the job they do, a week of recognition seems well deserved. Truckers can easily travel over 100,000 kilometres a year. That’s a lot of time on the road and a lot of time away from their friends and families.
All those trucks and all those kilometres add up to billions of dollars worth of trade. In fact, truckers transport most of the goods between the provinces and the United States. Without their efforts, our economic engine would grind to a halt.
So from all of us at TranBC to all of you in the trucking industry, thank you! After Six Days on the Road, you may think, I’m On the Road Again, All I Do Is Drive. But we know you can’t wait to head East Bound and Down and Roll on Down the Highway. You are King of the Road. We’ll be doing everyone a favour and limiting our musical homage to quoting song titles and not actually trying to sing.
