Summer travellers, who first visit the DriveBC website, find valuable information, including routes, weather, border crossings and interesting stops. Check these features and links on DriveBC, to help you have a great holiday seeing family and friends, camping, fishing, hiking or doing whatever makes summer fun for you!

  1. Summer Driving Tips – Look over these pointers to prepare you and your vehicle for a safe journey on B.C. highways. Tips include advice on planning your route and ways to avoid collisions with wildlife.
  2. Road Conditions and Future Planned Events – Get up to speed on the latest road conditions, plus learn about any future happenings which could affect your route. When on the DriveBC map, be sure to click on the “Future Planned Events” box (by the purple cone) on the left hand side. For us, “planned events” means construction, maintenance or special events such as parades or athletic competitions which could affect traffic. If you’re looking for tourist-oriented events – say Chetwynd’s Chainsaw Carving Championship or the Alert Bay Music Festival – see below.

    Find out about future construction work, weather and inland ferry schedules on DriveBC.

  3. Tourist Information – Enter the B.C. government’s tourism website for festival listings, theme and circle driving routes, maps, accommodations and more.
  4. DriveBC Weather – Search for sunny skies in the current and forecasted weather conditions from Environment Canada.
  5. Distance Calculator – Want to know how far it is from Squamish to Summerland? Check the distance calculator. Not only will you find the distance – in kilometres and miles – but you’ll get an estimate of the approximate travel time and a listing of the highways to take to your destination.
  6. Inland Ferries – Look up schedules and crossing times for the ministry’s 14 inland ferry routes, which take passengers and vehicles over some of B.C.’s lakes and rivers. As part of B.C.’s highway system, these ferries are free.
  7. B.C. Ferries – Find information on sailing times and fares, for travel on the coast of Supernatural B.C. and to reach an island getaway.
  8. Peace Arch and Pacific Border Crossings – Check the wait times at the popular Peace Arch (Highway 99) and Pacific Crossing (Highway 15) borders, when you’re heading southbound into the U.S. View the webcams and read the changeable message signs posted near the crossings. DriveBC also has links to border crossing information for travellers driving north from western Washington, into B.C.

  9. TransLink Traffic Map – Pick your route and plan your travel in Greater Vancouver. Click on the “Park & Ride” box to see where you can park your vehicle and take transit. There’s webcams too.
  10. Routes Beyond B.C. – Get road information for Canada’s other provinces and territories, and the U.S.
  11. Webcams – View highway conditions and traffic volumes via more than 200 webcams located around the province.  When using the DriveBC map, click on the “web camera” box on the left side of the page, then scroll over the webcam icons on the map, to see the webcam photos.
