Traffic Volumes Data
The Ministry of Transportation constantly monitors changing traffic patterns in locations around the province to improve roadway planning. This information is specifically tailored for road building and planning.
Traffic information is available from counters on roads across the province:

Individual roadway sites (TIG and TRADAS)
TRADAS (TRAffic DAta System) has been used since 2004 to monitor traffic volume from 120 permanent and 550 occasional sites around the province. 65 of these measurement sites also provide information on vehicle length and speed.
TIG (Traffic Information GIS), used from 1994-2003, employed permanent traffic counters and short 7 day counts along with mathematical modeling to approximate average numbers of vehicles at sites along the provincial highway system.
Both the TRADAS and TIG systems use common road-count terms in reports that display Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), Annual Average Weekday Traffic (AAWT), Summer Average Daily Traffic (SADT), Annual Average Weekend Traffic (AAWET).
For more information on TRADAS, please visit the TRADAS Additional Information and Glossary sections. For more information on TIG, please read the More Info and How to Use sections for that system.
We have also provided access to a number of publications that have been in general circulation for a number of years. These publications are not considered to be the record-of-source for Traffic Data in BC. For the official record of traffic please visit the sites shaded yellow in the above table.
Intersection count sites (TSG)
Transportation Survey GIS (TSG) system presents reports of traffic volumes moving through various intersections around the province.
Intersection information is presented in the format received by the ministry and has been clarified into information for both professional and general users. Please note that both applications present the same number of intersection counts; the professional version incorporates additional functionality. You are welcome to use either application.
