Where the new highway meets the old – the North Junction

The construction just north of Horseshoe Bay is the site of the north junction. This is where the newly constructed four-lane Eagleridge or ‘overland’ section merges with the rebuilt highway.  When complete this new highway layout will safely carry through traffic as well as separate traffic to and from residential areas such as the Pasco Road area and Horseshoe Bay Village.

This computer-generated drawing illustrates the completed North Junction. Arrow 1 indicates the new Eagleridge or “overland” section as it merges with the existing highway.  Arrow 2 shows the newly-constructed lower highway which is currently acting as a temporary detour while crews work to join the new overland route to the existing main highway alignment. When complete, this new lower highway will take traffic to and from residential areas such as Pasco Road and Horseshoe Bay Village. Arrow 3 shows the new northbound flyover giving local traffic access to the northbound main highway. Arrow 4 indicates a re-located private driveway.

Ground-level photos showing the newly-constructed lower road which carries traffic to residential areas such as Horseshoe Bay Village. Both north and southbound traffic is now using this road as a temporary detour until construction is complete on the main highway above.

Looking north, this photo shows construction underway on the northbound flyover which will provide access to traffic from Horseshoe Bay Village onto the main highway.

A ‘toe wall’ built adjacent to the existing highway supports fill from the up-slope construction where workers are building the overland or Eagleridge section which will slope down to join the existing highway alignment.
