West Vancouver Photo Gallery – Fall 2006

Crews replace the existing Eaglebluffs structure and begin construction to widen the highway by erecting new mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls which when completed, will carry the new east bound lanes. The construction of the walls includes use of galvanized steel earth reinforcing grids to stabilize the earth fill, and these grids are connected to pre cast facing panels. The segmented wall panels are put in place using conventional excavation equipment.

The next stage of work required the demolition of the south half of the Eaglebluffs structure using track-mounted equipment. Crews worked quickly to accomplish this with minimal traffic disruption.

Construction begins on the new Eagleridge eastbound on-ramp. To maximize existing space under the Eagleridge overpass and to limit the foot-print of the ramp, a retaining wall is being constructed using a technique of building from the top down.

Photos show preparation work for the north junction near Pasco Road. At this location, series of retaining walls are being constructed, the first shown here. This wall built next to the CN Rail line forms the foundation of the highway widening. Construction will rise up the steep slope in a terraced pattern, with back filled earth walls rising to carry the relocated old highway and the new highway widening.
