Ansell Place to Squamish Photo Gallery – Fall 2006
Loggers Creek
Photos show the widening of Loggers Creek bridge, about 6 km north of Lions Bay. Sequence shows bridge abutments complete. With the existing parapet wall removed crews install the new girder, then form and cast the bridge deck. To complete the widening, a new parapet was formed and cast in-place.
Furry Creek Bridge and North
Newly completed highway section opened for commuter and weekend traffic Oct. 6. The 5 km section between Furry Creek and Minaty Bay will be substantially complete by the end of November, 2006. Improvements included construction of a new bridge crossing Furry Creek, built at a higher elevation to withstand a 200-year flood event. Only the superstructure of the existing Furry Creek bridge was replaced to extend the life of the original structure. The final photo shows the newly completed Middle Creek bridge, part of the improvements in the Furry Creek section, which also opened to traffic in early October. Squamish Area Photos
Preliminary work on the Mamquam bridge included installation of piles. The welder is splicing pipe that the pile-hammer pounds down about 17 metres to reach stable ground. Reinforcing steel cages are then inserted into the pipe piles prior to pouring concrete, upon which the bridge pier caps will be constructed. Construction on the bridge will resume in 2007.
Crews lower steel caissons for the Shannon Creek bridge. This bridge will be built on four of these concrete-filled piles, two on each side of the creek. The last two photos show installation of concrete box culverts at the Mashiter spawning channel and near the Squamish business park. These are two of several culverts that must be installed in advance of fish returning to the Squamish area rivers.
