Furry Creek South

This series of photos shows the sequence of work at Furry Creek south, started this summer.  After clearing the embankment to the east of the highway, workers began to excavate rock to construct the sub-grade (the layer below the pavement) for the widened highway and to construct ditches.

The aerial photo shows the mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall that was constructed to the south of the upslope work.  The strategy of widening two lanes to the west gave the contractor a place to use rock from nearby excavations, and saved the major noise and traffic impacts that come with blasting to create the two new lanes.
