West Vancouver Photo Gallery – Spring 2007
The first two photos show the second of three lane shifts on the West Vancouver section at the site of the Eagleridge interchange. Eastbound traffic now flows over the newly constructed lanes. This lane shift allows work to continue safely and unimpeded in the centre area, and once complete, Sea-to-Sky traffic will be separated in this area from Horseshoe Bay Village and ferry traffic.
Construction is underway on support structures which will carry the ramp, part of the Eagleridge interchange.
Work continues on the Eagleridge section, where rock scalers on one of the cuts use meshing and rock bolts to ensure slope stability. While rock scaling and slope stabilization are an essential part of construction, it is also part of on-going maintenance when construction is complete. Rock scaling and slope stabilization clears loose rock, trees or other debris ensuring that no loose material will fall on the highway below.
Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls are constructed to minimize the need to blast into the mountainside. These pictures show one of the MSE walls being built on the Eagleridge section. Large culverts are being installed to provide for wildlife passage under highway. Smaller passageways are being provided for amphibians.
Stunning west and north views of Howe Sound as seen from construction locations along the Eagleridge section.
