The Registrar of Passenger Transportation (Registrar) licenses commercial passenger vehicles in British Columbia and enforces provisions of the Passenger Transportation Act and the Passenger Transportation Regulation. This enforcement includes the distribution and receipt of applications for all commercial passenger vehicle licences and the handling of complaints about the operation and compliance of commercial passenger vehicles.
The Registrar is responsible for developing application guides and forms, accepting and reviewing all applications to operate commercial passenger vehicles, verifying safety requirements and issuing all approved licences. The Registrar directs the resources of the Passenger Transportation Branch to complete these activities.
The Registrar has principal accountability for enforcement and compliance of the Passenger Transportation Act and the Passenger Transportation Regulation, including the imposing of sanctions and penalties. Enforcement against licensed operators is handled with administrative penalties, including licence suspension/cancellation and refusal to issue a licence, as well as through administrative fines. |
