Summer 2008 Rest Area Enhancement Program

To apply for Summer Youth Employment send your resume, and a written recommendation from a recent teacher/instructor to your local Ministry of Transportation District Office. A list of offices that are currently hiring and their list of hiring requirements is available for each highway district.

Summer 2008 Rest Area Enhancement Program

Sample of Job Duties:

  • Painting, weeding, general maintenance of assigned rest areas
  • Administer surveys to general public
  • Operate Ministry vehicle, cell phone and/or radio equipment
  • Follow all safety regulations
  • If applicable, supervising other Team Member(s)

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be enrolled full-time at an accredited educational institution within the past six months
  • Drivers License requirements vary by provincial district
  • Pass a Criminal Records Check to work with youth (if over 18)
  • Meet the physical requirements of the work
  • Have strong interpersonal skills
  • Be self-confident and motivated
  • Be results and service oriented
  • Work well in a team
  • Have a teacher/instructor recommendation
  • If applicable, have a positive reference from a previous employer

Provisos

Must be willing and able to:

  • Climb up and down steep slopes and between structures
  • Drive
  • Occasionally work in hazardous conditions/locations
  • Move heavy objects up to 30 pounds
  • Work shifts including weekends
  • Work outside during periods of inclement weather and/or on rough terrain
  • Provide and wear own steel toed shoes, sunscreen, insect repellant, etc…
