Early Career Development

If you are just starting in a career, try one of our Early Career Development Programs, in Engineering, Technology or Management. After completing one of these programs, you can decide on what career path is right for you.

Current Early Career Development Programs:

Other Student Employment Programs:
At the Ministry of Transportation, you have the opportunity to work on projects that directly impact the traveling public of British Columbia. The Ministry offers co-op, internship and youth employment assignments that aim to develop students into future leaders. You receive challenging work that stretches your capabilities and allows you to integrate classroom theory with industry practices. Upon graduation, your demonstrated academic excellence and work experience provide you with the opportunity to apply for continuing career advancement.

Cooperative Education Programs
The co-op program with the Ministry of Transportation creates assignments that allow you to integrate your educational knowledge to related hands-on experience in the field of your choice. Our participants alternate their work assignments and academic terms to maximize their learning potential.

Normally, co-op work assignments are for four months and do not exceed eight months in any 16 month period, unless it is necessary to meet the requirements of the academic institution.

Internship Programs
The Public Service Internship Program is designed to provide recent graduates from post-secondary institutions with direct work experience that introduces them to a career in the public service.

The 48-week work assignments are targeted at developing the skills and expertise needed in the Public Service in order to meet future demand. They will help you develop a base of experience in order to compete for future positions in government, and provide you with the opportunity to apply your education within a work environment.

At the completion of 40 weeks participants are eligible to apply for “In-Service” competitions with the BC Public Service for up to seven months after completion of the 48 week program.

Youth Employment
The Youth Employment Program (YEP) provides opportunities for youth with work experience to develop the skills necessary to be successful in obtaining work in their career area in future. To be eligible, students must have attended an accredited educational institute within the past 12 months (includes high school).

The work assignments last for a minimum of one month and a maximum of four months.

Work assignments are directed towards developing the skills and expertise required to meet future demand.
