Career Paths — Information Systems


We are an integrated Information Systems group that specializes in computing infrastructure and information services that support the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s programs and services. We use information and computing technologies in discovering, optimizing, and renewing products and processes.

Business Services

The Business Services section is responsible for planning, managing, developing and implementing business systems for corporate system initiatives as well as developing the strategic and annual plans for ministry departments. The section provides leadership, consulting, technical advice and problem resolution for information management at every level of the organization.

In addition, the section supports the ministry business units by coordinating the installation and support of computer hardware and software and works with the business units to develop, support and maintain line of business applications.

Application Development and Maintenance

The Application Development and Maintenance section works closely with the Business Services group to provide the necessary:

  • Technical infrastructure and
  • Technical expertise

in support of the business requirements of various ministry branches.

Through the implementation of appropriate technology and use of service standards and guidelines, Application Development and Maintenance Technical subject matter experts partner with 'front-line' Business Services personnel participating in various phases of systems initiatives to ensure cost-effective deployment and maintenance of systems solutions to meet customers' business problems. In-house and private-sector systems professionals are utilized to ensure quick turnaround and best value on all projects.

Planning and Administration

This section is responsible for all ministry voice communications, the ministry information technology capital plan and budget, procurement of ministry information technology equipment and the financial component of Information Technology Shared Services. In addition we manage the operating budget, provide administrative, financial and human resources support to the branch.

Regional Systems

Each Regional office has a Manager, System Services (MSS) reporting to the Regional Manager, Corporate Services. The MSS is responsible for local Regional Application Development and Maintenance as well as support for Ministry specific applications, recommending procurement of goods and services, and coordinating support services provided by the central information technology agency.
