Program Overview
Since the 1960s, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Engineer-in-Training Program has been bringing top-quality engineers into the public service for the Province of British Columbia. Our Program is unique in two ways:
- it offers freshly graduated students an opportunity to gain experience in several types of jobs at different sites throughout the ministry and the province.
- it offers 3 to 4 assignments over the 4 year program, affording each engineer an opportunity to train, develop, obtain challenging work assignments and grow professionally.
Our ministry is known for the excellent quality of its people; for having a “can do” approach and for producing excellent results. Clearly our people are our most important strength. They make the delivery of our service plan possible and it is our desire to give them the best possible work environment, the right tools to do their job effectively and the respect and freedom they need to excel.
The Engineer-in-Training Program provides you with early-career opportunities to experience the diversity of the Ministry of Transportation in a series of assignments leading towards a clear career path within the organization. The Program offers you a way to build a solid record of accomplishments and a broad-based perspective of the ministry. Finally, it offers you flexibility to work at several locations before determining where your talents best suit our business needs.
Between October 1 and January 31, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure invites applications from interested and qualified students. To be considered, applicants must be legally able to work in Canada and be willing to relocate within the Province during the 4 year program.
If you are…
- enthusiastic, energetic, results-oriented,
- have proven academic credentials, and
- you will be obtaining a bachelor's degree in engineering this spring, or have graduated within the last year,

The 2008/2009 EIT competition has closed and we are no longer accepting applications.
