Benefit
Brief Description

Medical Service
Basic medical insurance in BC.

Extended Health & Dental
Financial assistance for drugs, eye care, birth control, hearing aids, and dental services.

Group Life Insurance
2 times annual salary, with a minimum coverage of $70,000.

Short Term Illness and Injury
75% of earnings up to 6 months.

Long Term Disability
68.3% of the first $2,200 / month and 50% of earnings above $2,200.

Pension Plan
Pension benefits are based number of years in the plan and the average of highest 5 years of salary. The pension is payable for your lifetime, and may continue for the lifetime of your spouse.

Annual Vacation

1st to 2nd year 15 days
3rd year 16 days
4th year 17 days
5th year 19 days
increases yearly to 25th year and after 35 days


Other/Family Leaves

Bereavement up to 5 days
Wedding 1 to 3 days
Moving household 1 day
Family/Parent Illness 1 to 2 days
Education case by case
Elections 3 to 4 hours
Medical/Dental 2 hours
Maternity/Parental/Adoption Leaves and others as provided in Collective Agreement.


Deferred Salary Leave Program
Defer up to 1/3 of gross salary to finance a future leave of 6 to 12 months.

Optional Dependant Group Life Insurance
$2.00 / month – provides spousal coverage of $8,000 and dependant coverage of $4,000 per child.

Group Aviation Accident Insurance
Covers travel by aircraft on government business.

Payroll Savings Programs
Canada Savings Bonds; BC Savings Bonds

Paid Statutory Holidays
11 days per year.

Overtime
Time and ½ for the first 2 hours on regular work days, then double time after that, and double time for all hours worked on a day of rest.
