Area Managers within the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure administer the road and/or bridge maintenance programs for an assigned portion of a contract area to ensure the road infrastructure provides for the safety and convenience of the motoring public throughout the District.
Area Managers plan, organize and implement the delivery of various road rehabilitation and improvement projects, and ensure they are integrated with other Ministry programs. They also play a key role in communicating with the Road and Bridge Maintenance Contractor in the district.
Area Managers have extensive front line contact with the general public, elected officials, and regulatory agencies on a wide variety of related issues within their assigned area. Also, they are on call frequently, particularly in the winter months. In emergency situations, Area Managers provide immediate direction and response to ensure the safety and protection of the public, the infrastructure, and the environment.
Area Managers typically have strong organization skills and the ability to handle stress and conflicting priorities.
In order to be fully implemented as an Area Manager, you must successfully complete the Area Manager Roads (or Bridges) Certification Program through BCIT. The Area Manager Roads Certification Program (AMRC) has recently been updated and is available for registration. A description of the course is provided in this PDF document: AMRC BCIT Course.
