We are looking for new graduates who want to build their careers in Engineering and Technical fields. The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) and Technician Entry Level Program (TELP) is currently hiring for a number of positions across the province.
The EIT program will be hiring at least 5 new people and the TELP program will be hiring at least 20 people to join the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure!

The ministry will be hosting information sessions at Universities and Colleges in Ontario during the month of November and in British Columbia in January 2009. You will meet people who work for the ministry and who may have started in our EIT program. The information sessions will provide you with an opportunity to learn about what you can expect when working for us and to ask questions about what your experiences might look like.
Snacks and refreshments will be served at each information session!!

We offer regular full-time employment that will lead to a dynamic career as a Professional Engineer. As an EIT you will have work assignments in various locations across the Province of BC.
All EIT’s are assigned to work with an experienced mentor who will promote and accelerate their development through increasingly challenging experiences and training opportunities.

What types of EIT positions are available?
Planning
Working with senior planners to assist with the long term planning of highway corridors (Sea to Sky)
Bridge
Working in a design team of technicians and engineers to plan and design the construction of bridges, rehabilitation and new, including review of consultants design.
Geotechnical
Working with a team of to other disciplines to design the geotechnical aspects of highway construction projects, emergencies (debris torrents, landslides, flooding/washouts, etc), and maintenance problems (drainage, erosion, creep, etc)
Traffic
Providing design reviews and recommendations on operational and design problems including revision and modification of operational issues (speed zones, signal timing, high incident crash zones, etc.)
What Qualifications do I need to be an EIT at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure?
If you are enthusiastic, energetic, results-oriented, have proven academic credentials and you will be obtaining a bachelor's degree in engineering this spring, or have graduated within the last few years, then this program is probably a good fit for you.
Here are the specific types of engineering educations that we are looking for:
- Civil engineering generalist
- Civil engineering with a focus in geotech
- Civil engineering with a focus in structures (bridges)
- Civil engineering with a focus in transportation/traffic

The Technician Entry Level Program recruits recent technical school graduates and provides them with supervised work experience, while continually increasing their responsibilities to a professional level.
All TELPs are assigned to work with experienced mentors who promote and accelerate their development. Trainees are exposed to a variety of technical problems, solutions and techniques that provide a solid career foundation for the future.

What types of TELP positions area available?
Bridge Area Manager
The 2008/2009 TELP competition has closed and we are no longer accepting applications.
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the position administers the bridge maintenance program for an assigned portion of one or more Contract Areas to ensure safety and convenience of the motoring public. The Area Manager, Bridges oversees audits and monitors bridge maintenance programs to ensure the work carried out by the Contractor is in accordance with the contractual agreement; and performs other related duties as required including supervising junior area supervisors and technical crews; may act for Operations Manager during absences.
Bridge Project Supervisor Assistants
The principal function of this position is to assist the Bridge Construction Project Supervisors in the inspection and administration of bridge construction contracts. Duties could include such items as:
- Assists in the management of bridge construction work;
- Inspection of bridge construction work;
- Surveys for bridge construction work;
- Administering contracts for bridge construction work;
- Directing construction on day labour projects;
- Preparing inspection and construction reports;
- Preparing construction contract documents, quality take-offs, cost estimates and progress reports
Must be willing and able to work outside during periods of inclement weather, at remote locations and/or at heights and rough terrain. Must work extended schedules and shifts as determined by on-site construction activities.
This position is a “field” position and may require you to travel and/or relocate depending on the location of the work.
District Operations Technician
The District Operations Technician reports directly to the District Operations Manager. Responsibilities include the following: Maintains and updates the ministry infrastructure inventory systems, [specifically the Road Inventory and Maintenance System (RIMS)]; assists in the administration, overseeing and monitoring of the road and/or bridge maintenance program; ensures work carried out by the Contractors is in accordance with the contractual agreements; delivers and monitors a variety of special projects and new initiatives that change depending on the mandate for the district office; manages ministry resources, such as the gravel pit inventories and ensures control of assets; manages the district sign program.
Development Approvals Technician
In this position, you will be responsible for making recommendations for approval of land use proposals submitted by developers and the general public. This includes: answering questions and providing information; one-on-one client interaction; conducting site inspections; providing expert technical advice in evaluating the impact of proposed developments; and, reviewing appeals.
Project Management Technician
In this position you will provide support to the Regional Manager, Project Delivery and individual Project Managers as they plan, organize and monitor the delivery of assigned projects. The projects the group delivers are wide ranging in scope and complexity and success depends upon teamwork and leadership. Project Management is a dynamic environment where many days your planned activities are replaced by emerging issues. Ideal candidates will have strong organizational skills, flexibility and be results focused.
Quality Management Technician
Reporting to the Regional Manager Corporate and Operational Services, the function of the Quality Management Technician is to support and participate in pavement marking, electrical and pavement surface evaluation services and delivery within the Northern Region through mentorship form the Manager, Quality Services, Manger Electrical Services and Geotechnical Design Engineer (Paving).
Geomatics Survey Technician
Reporting to the Geomatics Survey Project Supervisor, the function of the Geomatics Survey Technologist is to support, and participate with, senior technical specialists in the delivery of highway engineering services that meet project requirement and Ministry specification.
Pavement Marking Technician

Gravel Management Technician
Under the limited administrative direction of the Regional Gravel Manager, the primary purpose of this position is to assist in the planning, direction and management of the regional gravel management program and to provide expert advice to regional, district and headquarters staff, including other agencies, ministries and private organizations.
Engineering Aides – Field Services
Team participation in overseeing highway construction projects by ensuring contractors provide a quality product – (grading) survey for re-measures, quality assurance and field changes (paving) quality assurance lab tests, pound samples, review mix designs, etc. ,
Inspect work, conduct quality management audits, and materials testing using the latest technology, including robotic survey equipment
As a ‘mobile’ employee you will work and live throughout the province. As compensation for offsetting the costs for working remotely, you will be paid up to $1012/month for living out allowance.
A typical season involves 8-9 months working in remote locations with 3-4 months paid leave
What Qualifications do I need to be a TELP at the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure?
