Numbered Highways Service Classification

The EXCEL Version of the Landmark Kilometre Inventory (LKI) contains information on the service classification of numbered highways.  Use the “SEGMENT”, “LANDMARK” and “SEGCLASS_YR2002” tabs to determine the 6 character “Class” code for a section of highway.  The “CLASS_CATEGORY” tab and the “CLASS_CHARACTERISTICS” tab explain the 6 character code.  Note that service classes in the LKI have been assigned from a safety perspective and therefore in some cases 4-lane divided expressways have been classified as 4-lane divided arterials.
