The Provincial Advisory Cycling Committee was established to support the implementation of the Ministry of Transportations Cycling Policy. The Cycling Policy was announced in the spring of 2000 and at which time a commitment was made to create a cycling advisory committee.
The Provincial Advisory Cycling Committee brings together public and private sectors through the participation of government ministries, local government, cycling coalitions, and other groups interested in addressing the concerns of cyclists in the Province of British Columbia.
The Committees purpose is to provide a central review / vetting function for cycling issues that are provincial in nature. These would include such issues as:
- Monitoring and updating the Ministrys Cycling Policy and Guide book;
- Design standards;
- Construction and Maintenance Standards; and
- Facilitate dialogue in respect to cycling and the transportation network
This advice is done through reporting to the Minister via the Assistant Deputy Minister for Transportation Planning and Policy, and the Deputy Minister of Transportation.
