$14.6 Million Highway 97 Expansion Officially Opens
November 29, 2004 – Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon and Okanagan-Westside MLA Rick Thorpe officially open the $14.6 million, 4.5 kilometre, four-lane expansion along Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland. The improvements will increase safety and improve traffic flow along the busy corridor.

New $22-million Swan Lake Interchange Officially Opens
November 15, 2004 – Minister of Transportation, Kevin Falcon (right), Okanagan-Vernon MLA Tom Christensen (far left) and Shuswap MLA George Abbott unveil a plaque commemorating the opening of the new $22-million Swan Lake to Larkin Road interchange, just north of Vernon.
The new interchange will improve traveler safety while reducing travel times in a busy intersection that sees 27,000 vehicles per day. Swan Lake is the largest highway project completed in the Heartlands this year and was completed under budget by half a million dollars.

This project was completed one month early and half a million dollars under budget.

Wine Route Signs Unveiled
July 9, 2004 – Penticton-Okanagan Valley MLA Bill Barisoff and Lisa Stewart from the BC Wine Institute join Minister Falcon to announce a new signage program to improve local economies, create jobs, and better direct tourists to local wineries. There are 96 wineries in British Columbia that result in over 3,000 jobs and more than $23 million in salaries.

Minister Falcon indicated that the province would be prepared to commit $4 million towards construction of a debris basin and bridge south of Sicamous, should a local referendum on operation and maintenance pass.
