The department is responsible for the strategic Planning of the future highway system and for the Programming and Monitoring of transportation infrastructure capital projects. The department is also responsible for leading the improvement of Project Management practices within the ministry.
Corporate Policy, covering all transportation modes and regulatory functions, resides in the Transportation Planning and Policy Department. Transportation Policy and Planning is the sponsor of the Pacific Gateway initiative.
The Passenger Transportation Branch carries out the regulation, licensing and enforcement functions for commercial passenger vehicles throughout the province. The Marine Branch is responsible for the service contracts with private sector operators who provide public ferry services both coastal and inland.
