The mandate of the Environmental Management Section is to develop and maintain policies, standards, specifications and procedures, and provide expert counsel to the Ministry on highway related environmental matters. The section is responsible for general environmental management, and ensuring that due process is followed to protect and /or mitigate impacts from road planning, design, construction, and highway operations on natural, biophysical and socio-community resources. The section is also involved with a number of ongoing programs to enhance and manage the highway rights-of-way as described below.
