This branch develops and maintains policies
and procedures and provides expertise to the ministry in the areas of property
acquisition, expropriation, leasing and inventory management, and land survey and tenure.
It ensures that these assets are acquired, maintained and disposed of effectively and
efficiently within a set of established standards. The branch, on behalf of the ministry,
is responsible for dealing with all outside agencies and all interministry agreements
concerning acquisition and management of land.
The branch also has responsibility to provide
the ministry with the support, coordination, data and policy services it requires to
foster a productive relationship with First Nations and to ensure continued safe and
secure certainty of access to Ministry rights of way.
The branch provides support and advice to the
ministry executive, regions and districts and outside agencies in the following areas:
aboriginal relations, legal obligations and consultation, road tenure research and
acquisition, treaty negotiations and response to public road blockades.
The branch executive director
is responsible for the ministry emergency plan and the coordination
of emergency functions.
