Project Update

Project Selected for Environmental Award

GOLDEN – The Kicking Horse Canyon Project has been selected to receive the 2007 Environmental Achievement Award from the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC). The award recognizes the project’s environmental protection measures including air and water quality, revegetation and slope remediation, erosion control, habitat protection and animal-vehicle crash reduction.

The award will be presented to the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure at the annual TAC conference in Toronto in September.

Project Update

Phase 3 Construction to Begin September 2008

GOLDEN –The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has issued a call for tenders to reconstruct 8.8 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway east of Golden, signaling the start of Phase 3 of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project. This section of work is co-funded between the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada under the Building Canada Fund, a partnership that is accelerating progress on the national highway to help build a stronger, safer and better country. GOVERNMENT OF CANADA SUPPORTS HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENTS
THROUGH KICKING HORSE CANYON
Improvements part of new Canada-BC infrastructure Framework Agreement

GOLDEN – The Governments of Canada and British Columbia today announced improvements to the Trans-Canada Highway through the Kicking Horse Canyon as a priority for funding under Building Canada, the Government of Canada’s new long-term infrastructure plan. The Governments of Canada and British Columbia also announced the signing of a Framework Agreement worth over $2.2 billion under Building Canada. (more)

Construction Update:

Park Bridge opens to traffic

GOLDEN – The new Park Bridge opened to traffic on Thursday evening, August 30, 2007 just a few hours after Premier Gordon Campbell drove a 50’s classic car over the bridge in a ceremonial first crossing. (more)

Girder Launching under way on new Park Bridge

GOLDEN – The installation of girders for the new Park Bridge has begun, as construction continues on Phase 2 of the Kicking Horse Canyon Project. (more)

Construction Update:

Contractors pass baton from Phase 1 to Phase 2

GOLDEN– In an informal ceremony, a ceremonial baton has been passed between contractors working on the Kicking Horse Canyon Project. (more)

 


March 10, 2006

News Release:

Canada , B.C. Sign Kicking Horse Highway Agreement

VANCOUVER – An agreement has been signed between Canada and British Columbia to replace the Park (10-Mile) Bridge, upgrade approach curves, and construct and realign over 5 km of new four-lane highway east of Golden, in the Kicking Horse Canyon. Under the agreement, the Government of Canada will provide up to $62.5 million, and the Government of British Columbia will provide the remainder of the budget for the project, estimated at $130 million. $17.2 Million Awarded for Yoho Bridge Improvements

GOLDEN - A contract awarded to Emil Anderson Construction Ltd., to undertake significant improvements in the Kicking Horse Canyon section of the Trans-Canada Highway was announced today by Minister of Transportation Kevin Falcon. (more)
