Lillooett Fraser River Crossing – Replace Deck Expansion Joints
Coquitlam Ridge Construction Ltd. of Coquitlam has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $0.5 million to replace existing deck expansion joints with new finger joints at 23 Camels Deck. Dunn’s Corner realignment
Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. of Armstrong has been awarded a contract valued at just under $3 million. This surfacing project includes paving to correct pavement deficiencies and strengthen the roadway as well as top-lift paving to improve smoothness.  The project also includes the base construction and paving of 1.7 kilometers of new road construction at Dunn’s Corner.  The project was started shortly after May 1st, 2008, and is scheduled for completion on September 15th, 2008.

Hwy 1 – Salmon Arm 4 Lane, 10th Street SW to 30th Street – Resurfacing
Dawson Construction Limited of Kamloops has been awarded a contract valued at
just under $2.8 million.  This asphalt surfacing project includes the milling and repaving of Highway 1 through Salmon Arm to correct pavement deficiencies, strengthen the roadway and correct rutting.  This project will also include the resurfacing of side roads in the Enderby area.  Work on the highway is scheduled to begin after May 1st, 2008, and the project completion date is June 26th, 2008.

Hwy 1 – Salmon Arm Area – Hot-in-Place Recycling
ARC Asphalt Ltd. was awarded a contract for just over $1 Million to resurface two sections of the TCH Hwy 1. Section #1 is West of Salmon Arm, from 65th Avenue Northwest to the Salmon River Bridge. Section #2 is East of Salmon Arm, from 20th Avenue Northeast to East of Canoe Beach Drive Northeast. This project will use the hot-in-place recycling paving technique, which reduces green house gas emissions. These improvements will extend the surface life of these well-traveled lanes for approximately 7-10 years. Work is expected to begin in Spring, 2008 and end by June 25, 2008.

Hwy 29 – Peace District – Cache Creek Bridge Replacement
A $1.3 million contract has been awarded to Formula Contractors BC Ltd. to replace the old 50-metre Cache Creek Bridge on Hwy 29 with a new two-lane steel and concrete structure. Location is approximately 20 kilometres west of Fort St. John on Highway 29. Benefits to the public include, improved safety and service to local, industrial, and tourist traffic, expand 85-tonne route network, improve alternate route for heavy traffic between Prince George and Fort St. John and eliminate high maintenance costs associated with old timber structure. Work will commence in April 2008 and finish by June 30, 2008.

Hwy 97 – Harvey Avenue, City of Kelowna – Asphalt Surfacing
A $1.2 million contract has been awarded to Emil Anderson Construction (EAS) Ltd. to complete asphalt surfacing on Highway #97 Harvey Avenue within the City of Kelowna from Abbott Street to Gordon Drive (9.8 lane Kilometre). This is the six lane section immediately east of the approach to the new William R. Bennett Bridge. This surfacing project includes the milling and repaving Harvey Avenue to correct pavement deficiencies, strengthen the roadway, and correct rutting. Included in this project is the replacement and resetting of all the manhole frames and water valve box covers. These surface improvements on Hwy #97 will benefit local residents, tourists and commercial truck traffic through the City of Kelowna with a safe, smooth ride. The City of Kelowna is also taking this opportunity to improve the water mains and sewers under this section of Harvey Avenue. Work will commence September 2, 2008 and finish on October 9, 2008.

Hwy 3A – Tagnum Bridge #0206 – Concrete Bridge Deck Resurfacing and Joint Replacement
A $1.2 million contract was recently awarded to Seismic 2000 Construction Ltd. to complete the concrete bridge resurfacing and joint replacement of the Tagnum Bridge #0206, (West Branch and East Branch) which carries Highway No. 3A across the Kootenay River, the West Arm of Kootenay Lake and over the CPR, approximately 10km West of Nelson, B.C. The work will benefit the traveling public in that it will restore the durability and impermeability of the concrete deck surface, restore the traction and smoothness of the deck, as well as restore the smoothness and water-tightness of the joints. This project will commence April 7, 2008 and will be complete by June 22, 2008.

Nazko Road – Asphalt Surfacing
A $3 million contract was recently awarded to Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. to resurface West of Quesnel from 2 kilometers west of the Blackwater Road Intersection for approximately 18 kilometers as well as Dunn’s Corner realignment located between kilometer 38.8 and 40.5 on Nazko Road. This surfacing project includes paving to correct pavement deficiencies and strengthen the roadway as well as top-lift paving to improve smoothness. The project also includes the base construction and paving of 1.7 kilometers of new road construction at Dunn’s Corner. The surface improvements on Nazko Road will primarily benefit the forest industry, area residents and tourists along this major forestry access corridor with improved roadway structure and a safer and smoother ride. There will be less maintenance costs by preventing water infiltration and subsequent loss of roadbed structural strength. Work is scheduled to start after May 1, 2008 and to complete by September 15th, 2008.

Hwy 1 – East of Cache Creek – Hot-in-Place Recycling Resurfacing
A $1.98 Million contract was recently awarded to Green Roads Recycling Ltd. to resurface a section of the Trans Canada Highway 1, from Quartz Rd. to Wallhachin Rd., East of Cache Creek. This portion of the TCH Highway 1 contains both Eastbound and Westbound passing lane sections. This project involves hot-in-place recycling, which uses recycled materials to resurface the road, reducing the emission of fossil fuels that would otherwise have been generated to extract and process new materials. This project is expected to extend the surface life of this section of highway for seven to ten years. Work is scheduled to start after April 2, 2008 and to complete by the end of September, 2008.

Hwy 97 – Bentley Road to Okanagan Lake Park – Grading & Paving
Arthon Contractors Inc. was awarded a $38.61-million contract to construct 7 km of new 4-lane highway between Bentley Road and Okanagan Lake Park. This construction will raise highway design standards to 100 km/h. Approximately 3 km frontage roads will be constructed to consolidate accesses off the highway. The new 4-laning will provide assured passing opportunities, increase capacity, improve safety and reduce delays. Work will begin in February, 2008 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2010.

This construction project will receive partial funding from the Federal Government, under the Building Canada Plan.

Enterprise Creek Arch and Approaches
A $2.9-million contract has been awarded to Mijomon Holdings Ltd. of Galloway, B.C. to replace the exiting single-lane wooden structure with a new two-lane, 18-meter arch pipe structure and improves approaches. This will reduce travel times, improve traffic mobility, reduce accidents and increase road safety. Work is expected to be completed by May 28th, 2008.

Macaulay Bridge – Replacement
A $427,500 contract has been awarded to BG Macdonald Services Ltd. of Kelowna, B.C. to construct a single-span bridge. The existing single-lane bridge has reached the end of its service life. A new two-lane structure will replace it. This will benefit commercial traffic. Work is expected to be completed by November 15th, 2007.

Waneta Bridge – Rehabilitation
A $1.5M contract has been awarded to Mijoman Holdings Ltd. of Galloway, B.C. to restore the structural capacity of the bridge. The planned repairs will result in a bridge which will provide an excellent crossing for all users and should require minimal maintenance for many years. The completion of this project will assure the long-term suitability of the structure to allow the free movement of people and goods across the Canada/Us border. Work is expected to be completed by July 31, 2008.
