Cariboo Connector

Kicking Horse Canyon Project

Hwy 97 – Horse Lake Road — Create Intersection
Jacob. Bros. Construction Ltd. (Surrey) was awarded a contract valued at $3,082,755.00 for the alignment of Horse Lake and 7th Avenue to create a full movement, 4-legged, signalized intersection on Highway 97. The project is part of the Cariboo-Connector 4-Laning Strategy. Extension of 4-laning on Highway 97, frontage road improvements, illumination, mobility and access management improvements are also components of the project. The project is expected to start in the Fall of 2009 and end September 3, 2010.

Hwy 3/93 — Elko — Passing Lane
Interoute Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $1,638,957.63 for widening the existing two-lane highway to accommodate an assured passing location for westbound traffic.

Hwy 3/93 — Elko — Passing Lane
Interoute Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $1,638,957.63 for widening the existing two-lane highway to accommodate an assured passing location for westbound traffic.

Hwy 97 – Bullock Lake Road South — Road Widening
A $3 million project to widen approximately two kilometres of Highway 97N from two to four lanes between Clinton and 100 Mile House was awarded to local owner operators and is expected to be complete by November 2009.

Hwy 97 – Stormy Road North — Widening
A $3 million project to widen approximately one kilometre of Highway 97N from two to four lanes between Clinton and 100 Mile House was awarded to local owner operators and is expected to be complete by November 2009.

Hwy 1 – Tank Hill Overhead to Thompson River Bin Wall – Asphalt Surfacing
Peter Bros. was awarded a contract valued at $3,944,461.00 for this surfacing project which includes the mill and fill paving of the truck climbing lanes and a 50mm overlay. Paving includes the paved shoulders to correct pavement deficiencies, strengthen the roadway and correct rutting. The project is expected to start September 15, 2009 and end October 31, 2009.

Hwy 97 – Falkland Bridge to Pinaus Lake Road– Asphalt Surfacing
Dawson Construction Limited was awarded a contract valued at $2,803,621.60 for this surfacing project which includes the mill and fill paving of the traveled lanes and overlay. Paving includes 2 metre paved shoulders to correct pavement deficiencies, strengthen the roadway and correct rutting. Included within this contract is the paving of a 2 km reconstructed section of the Chase-Falkland Road, approximately 13 km east of Falkland. The project is expected to start September 14, 2009 and end November 6, 2009.

Hwy 3 – Goatfell Overhead Bridge #1470 – Rehabilitation
Seismic 2000 Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $336,235.00 to replace the existing bridge joints and to rehabilitate the girder system to increase the life of the existing structure and to maintain or increase the loading of the structure. The project is expected to start September 2009 and end October 30, 2009.

Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $3,814,377.70 for widening approximately 2.5km of the existing alignment from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, to provide assured passing opportunities. The project is expected to start in April 2009 and end November 1, 2009.

Hwy 95A – Kimbrook Crescent - Kuppenbender Road – Improvements
Copcan Contracting Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $5,844,000.00 for the rehabilitation of the Highway 95A arterial corridor through the City of Kimberley. The project is partnered with the City of Kimberley to complete the improvements which include the construction of curb and gutter, storm water management, access management, safety improvements and new city sidewalks.  The project started in September 2007 and project completion date is December 2009.

Hwy 97 – Williams Lake I.R No. 1 to Likely Road – Highway Upgrading
Peter’s Bros. Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $1,576,121.00 to upgrade 1.98 km of Highway 97 to four lanes. The project is expected to be completed by October 30, 2009.

Hwy 5N Darfield Area –Preacher Curves to Bowden Road – (14.4 lane km) Asphalt Surfacing
Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $1,698,777.50 for a paving project that includes milling 50mm to remove rutting, deep milling patching to improve weak and distressed areas, leveling course to improve smoothness and correct super- elevations and crossfall issues and 50mm top lift overlay. This paving project will repave the shoulder to a width of 2 metres. The project is expected to start in May 2009 and end October 9, 2009.

Hwy 97A – Larkin to Crozier Road – Construct Four-lane Highway
Emil Anderson Construction Inc. was awarded a contract valued at $16, 867,969.00 to construct new 4.2 km of four-lane highway to 100 km/h design standards between Larkin to Crozier Road. A diamond interchange with two roundabouts and 4.4 km frontage road system will also be constructed to improve mobility and eliminate direct accesses off the highway. The project is expected to start March, 2009 and end November 1, 2010.

Boulder Creek Bridge – Replace Existing Bridge
Ruskin Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $1,570,007.00 for design and construction of a new two lane concrete bridge on an improved alignment to replace an existing single lane timber constructed bridge. The project is expected to start spring 2009 and end October 31, 2009.

Hwy 3A – East Shore Kootenay Lake, Birch Road to 1 km South of Boswell Road (36.5 Lane km) and Miscellaneous Side Road Paving (20.0 Lane km)
Dawson Construction Limited was awarded a contract valued at $4,649,712.29 for repair of distressed areas, level course and top lift overlay of 18.25 km portion of Highway 3A from the Birch Road to 1 km south of Boswell Road. The project is expected to start April 2009 and end October 3, 2009.

Hwy 3 – Loop Bridge and Corbin Overhead Approaches
Great Circle Construction Company Ltd was awarded a contract valued at $7,229,431.30 for design/engineering/construction of replacement of the 53-year-old Loop Bridge.  The contract also includes the realignment of the bridge approaches, construction of an elevated CPR railway crossing (overhead) and the reconstruction/relocation of Corbin Road  intersection. The project length is approximately 1.8km.and includes BC Hydro/Telus/Shaw utilities relocation. The project is expected to start July 13, 2009 and end Sept.30, 2010.

Hwy 5A – Miscellaneous Areas, Stump Lake to Cardeau Hill (25.8 lane km) – Asphalt Surfacing
Dawson Construction Limited was awarded a contract valued at $2,611,060.00 to pave two sections of Highway 5A from Stump Lake/Old Kamloops Road to Cardeau Hill. The project is expected to start May 2009 and end October 9, 2009.

Hwy 97 – Hixon Creek Bridge – Bridge Replacement
Pennecon Heavy Civil Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $5,944,368.40 to replace the Hixon Creek Bridge with a four lane bridge including upgrades to 0.7 km of Highway 97 and improving Swanson Road and Yard/Douglas Road access to Highway 97.

The project is expected to start Spring 2009 and end in the Fall of 2009.

Hwy 97 – Wright Station Curves
Wiltech Developments Inc. was awarded a contract valued at $7,799,348.74 to re-align 4.2 km of Highway 97 to a 100 km/h corridor standard, and construct to a 4-lane cross section, in concert with the Cariboo Connector 4-Laning Strategy. The project is expected to be completed by Fall 2009.

Adams River – Bridge Replacement
Forbes Industrial Contractors Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $9,125,000.00 to replace the existing single Lane Timber Howe Truss built in 1956 with a two lane structure with a sidewalk. The project is expected to be completed by November 2009.

Hwy 97 – Dale Lake Road to Dragon Lake Road – 4-lane cross section
Cantex-Okanagan Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $7,866,561.15 to Re-align 3.2 km of Highway 97 to a 100 km/h corridor standard and construct to a 4-lane cross section, in concert with the Cariboo Connector 4-Laning Strategy. The project is expected to start Fall 2008 and end Fall 2009.

Hwy 97 – Bentley Road to Okanagan Lake Park – Grading & Paving
Arthon Contractors Inc. was awarded a $38.61-million contract to construct 7 km of new 4-lane highway between Bentley Road and Okanagan Lake Park. This construction will raise highway design standards to 100 km/h. Approximately 3 km frontage roads will be constructed to consolidate accesses off the highway. The new 4-laning will provide assured passing opportunities, increase capacity, improve safety and reduce delays. Work will begin in February, 2008 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2010.

This construction project will receive partial funding from the Federal Government, under the Building Canada Plan.
