Hwy 15 – 88 to 97 Avenue — Grading, Paving, Drainage and Electrical Construction
Imperial Paving Limited was awarded a contract valued at $5,445,601.20 for upgrading a segment of Highway 15 to a four lane facility with an auxiliary lane and a new intersection at Highway 15 and 96 Ave. Work includes grade construction, asphalt reclamation, asphalt paving and electrical installations. The project is expected to end October 31, 2008.

Hwy 3 – Skagit No.1 — Bridge Replacement
Emil Anderson Construction Inc. was awarded a contract valued at $3,151,167.00 to replace the existing Skagit No.1 Bridge. The project is expected to start July 2008 and end June 2009.

Hwy 1 – Glover Road Underpass – No 1579, Damage Repair
Seismic 2000 Construction Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $276,165.00 for design and construction of the repairs to restore the damage resulting from the impact at Glover Road Underpass No. 1579 located on Highway 1, east of the Port Mann Bridge in the Township of Langley. The project is expected to start August 2008 and end October 3, 2008.

Hwy 10 – 192nd Street to Springbrook Road – Asphalt Resurfacing
Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. was awarded a contract valued at $3,721,228.00 to resurface Highway 10 between 192nd Street to Springbrook Road. This work will improve strength and extend service life of existing infrastructure with minimal disruption to the travelling public. The project is expected to start August 2008 and end October 3, 2008.

Hwy 17 – Ladner Trunk Rd and Hwy 99 – Intersection Improvements
Jacob Bros. Construction Ltd. was awarded a $1.6 million contract for improvements to the intersection at Highway 17 and Ladner Trunk Rd and the eastbound on ramp to southbound Highway 99. The project is expected to start in June 15, 2008, and end August 31, 2008.

Hwy 1 – Construction of Adjacent Embankment Berm Barrier
Gable Construction Ltd. was awarded a $576,300.00 contract for the construction of an embankment berm barrier adjacent to Highway 1. This project will replace the existing 2 metre high concrete barrier with an 8 metre high reinforced rock and earth structure to contain rock slides (and avalanches) that would otherwise impact the highway. The project is expected to start in June 9, 2008, and end August 22, 2008.

Hwy 1 – Stocking Creek – East Wall No. 3403R Replacement
Brunnell Construction Ltd. was awarded a $492,000 contract to install a new 240 m2 reinforced soil slope wall, which will replace the existing binwall structure.  The project is expected to start in June 2008 and end July 15, 2008.

Ironworkers' Memorial Bridge – Repairs
Macform Construction Group Ltd. was awarded a $300,000 contract to carry out repairs to the substructure components of the bridge to extend the service life of the bridge.  The project is expected to start in April 21, 2007 and end July 31, 2008.

Hwy 1 – Jackass Mountain Area – Rock Slope Stabilization
A $229,969.69 contract has been awarded to Chimera Springs Rock Works Ltd. of Chase, B.C. for rock slope stabilization in the Jackass Mountain area. The work includes installing slope meshing, which was removed earlier this year due to damage caused by rock and avalanche activity. Rock scaling and removing unstable rock from the slope will also be included.

Hwy 1 – Annis Road to Hwy 9 – Repairs
A $1,889,970 contract has been awarded to Emil Anderson Maintenance Ltd. of Rosedale, B.C. for Highway 1 repairs between Annis Road and Highway 9. The work will include reconstruction and repaving of the westbound slow lane, eastbound slow lane and shoulder and mitigation of ponding areas in the fast lanes, enhancing safety for travellers.

Hwy 7 – Dewdney, Deroche and Shook – Bridge Repairs
Coquitlam Ridge Construction Ltd. has been awarded a contract valued at just under $1 million to complete repairs to the timber substructures of Dewdney, Deroche and Shook Bridges to extend their service life by 10 years.  Repairs include the replacement of rotting, deteriorating and rusting timber and steel bridge components.  The bridges will continue to provide service to the B.C. public for the next ten years.  The work start date is tentatively set to begin May 2008, and the project completion date is November 30 2008.

Hwy 1/Hwy 7 – Odlum Bluff – Rock Slope Stabilization
Chimera Springs Rock Works Ltd. of Chase has been awarded a contract of $2.4 million for the rock slope stabilization of Odlum Bluff.  This work at Odlum Bluff will reduce the risk of rock fall onto the highway, railroad and utility installations.  The project start date was May 12, 2008, and it is scheduled for completion on
June 6, 2008.

Riverside Bridge – Partial Deck Rehabilitation
Ruskin Construction Ltd. of Victoria has been awarded a contract of approximately $750,000 to repair portions of the Riverside Bridge on South Shore Road in the Town of Lake Cowichan.  This work will extend the service life of the bridge by repairing the deteriorating concrete deck and corroding steel girders.  Work was scheduled to begin April 16, 2008, and the project completion date is June 27, 2008.

Hwy 30 – Hot-In-Place Recycling – Port Alice Road
ARC Asphalt Recycling Inc Kamloops has been awarded a contract of just under $3.2 million. The work consists of aggregate production, level course and patch paving, and hot-in-place recycled asphalt paving.  The project site is located on Highway 30 on Northern Vancouver Island. This work will improve the surface of the existing highway, as well as increase the service life of the road.  The project completion date is September 17, 2008.

Colquitz River – Culvert Roof Rehabilitation Bridge No. 7306
Forbes Industrial Contractors Ltd. won a contract for just under $500,000 to rehabilitate the Colquitz River Culvert Roof on Bridge No. 7306. This project involves repairing the deteriorating walls and roof and extending the service life of the culvert. This project will improve safety for pedestrian and vehicular traffic crossing the structure, as well as increase overall efficiency of the culvert by reducing high maintenance costs. Work is expected to begin on June 15, 2008 and end by September 15, 2008.

Pender Island – Asphalt Surfacing and Side Road Paving
OK Industries Ltd. was awarded a contract for just under $1.4 Million to resurface approximately 9.7 km of multiple side roads on Pender Island. This project will replace deteriorating roadway infrastructure that is currently difficult and costly to maintain. Pender Island is experiencing substantial growth and development and the existing road network has surpassed its life expectancy. Rehabilitation of many local roads is required. In partnership with the Ministry, Mainroad Contracting South Island Ltd. will deliver additional sealcoating and paving services. Work is expected to start in June 16, 2008 and end by July 18, 2008.

Surrey – 156th Street Underpass – Construction
A $16.5-million contract has been awarded to launch design and construction of the 156th Street Underpass project in the City of Surrey.This project, a partnership between the ministry and the City of Surrey, will construct an underpass running under Highway 1 at 156th Street and upgrade 156th Street between 104th and 108th Avenues to two lanes (expandable in the future to four lanes south of Highway 1). The underpass will also allow for the future addition of median ramps to provide access between Surrey and Highway 1 for HOV and transit vehicles, including highway rapid bus service across the Port Mann Bridge.The design-build contract has been awarded to BA Blacktop of North Vancouver. Design and survey work will take place over the winter, and construction is expected to start in the spring. The total cost of the project is $19.6 million. The ministry is providing $11.8 million, and the City of Surrey, which is managing the project, is providing $7.8 million. The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009.

Hwy 7 – Pump House Bridge – No 1479 Replacement  
A $3.1-million contract has been awarded to Seismic 2000 Construction Ltd. of Langley, B.C. to replace Hwy 7 Pump House Bridge. This will result in a safer bridge, designed to the 200-year, flood waters specifications. The current wood pile structure bridge is near its end of life and will be replaced with a new 38.5 meter long steel plate girder bridge with a cast-in-place- deck. Work is expected to be completed by March 30th, 2008.

Twin Creek Bridge - No 6509 – Replacement  
A $1.25-million contract has been awarded to Surespan Construction Ltd. of West Vancouver, B.C. for the supply and construction of an 18.0 meter-long single span, precast, prestressed, concrete box stringer bridge on Chaumox Road, approximately 10km north of Boston Bar. This will replace the existing steelwood structure bridge which is near the end of life with a bridge and is designed to the 200-year, flood waters specifications. Work is expected to be completed by March 30th, 2008.

Alex Fraser Bridge – Modular (Expansion) Joint Replacements
A $4.3-million contract has been awarded to Kingston Construction Ltd. of Surrey for the replacement of the modular (expansion) joints in the main span of the Alex Fraser Bridge.  The joint is to be replaced across the four three-lane wide sections starting in the northbound direction.  Work is expected to be completed by January 31, 2008.

Hwy 10 – 122nd Street to 176A Street, Surrey – Construction
B & B Contracting Ltd. of Surrey has been awarded a $35.9-million contract to four-lane Hwy 10, 122nd Street to 176A Street in Surrey, including intersection improvements and construction of a bridge. Work is expected to be completed in September 2008. Construction is being staged to minimize impacts on traffic.
This project is part of the Border Infrastructure Program, a joint federal-provincial program to improve movement of goods and people to and from the Lower Mainland border crossings. For more information go to: http://www.bip.gov.bc.ca/

Hwy 15 – 32nd Ave. to Roger Pierlet Overhead and 68A Ave. to 92nd Ave. – Construction
A $15.4-million contract has been awarded to Imperial Paving Ltd. of Burnaby to 4-lane Hwy 15, from 32 nd Ave to the Roger Pierlet Overhead and from 68A Ave. to 92 nd Ave. in Surrey. Work will begin in January 2007 is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2008.

This construction contract is part of the $210-million Border Infrastructure Program (BIP), a joint federal-provincial program to improve the movement of goods and people to and from the Lower Mainland’s border crossings. A portion of the project is also funded by the Border Crossing component of the Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program (SHIP).

Hwy 15 – FAST/Nexus Lane, 175A Street Wall – Phase 2
A $355,000 contract has been awarded to Neelco Construction Inc. of Surrey, B.C. Phase 2 of the project includes the construction of a four meter high by 188 meter long wall between the dedicated truck lane to the US Customs building and 175A Street. This will reduce noise from truck traffic parking at the border crossing for local residents adjacent to the parking lot. Work is expected to be completed by March 2008.

Hwy 91/91A – Queensborough Interchange – Interchange Reconfiguration
A $19.3-million contract has been awarded to B.A. Blacktop of North Vancouver to complete the reconfiguration of the interchange at the north end of the Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster.  Work includes a six span pile foundation concrete viaduct, single steel span pedestrian bridge, concrete bridge demolition; grading, drainage, paving, electrical, traffic signals, signs, landscaping, and pavement marks.  Work is expected to be completed by October 31, 2008.

Highway 91A, Howes Street Interchange Phase 3: Construction
A $5-million contract has been awarded to Delta Aggregates Ltd. of Delta to construct the highway approaches for the new Howe Street Overpass at the Howe Street Interchange in New Westminster. Work is expected to be completed by October 30, 2008.
