Construction Update

Construction continues on the replacement of the Old Capilano Bridge, which carries westbound Marine Drive traffic over the Capilano River.

With the recent move of the old bridge and removal of its abutments, current work includes the preparation of new bridge abutments.

The relocation of the old bridge was accomplished on Saturday night, June 19. it was shifted to a site slightly to the north of the original crossing, where it will function as a detour for westbound Marine Drive traffic for the next several months while the replacement bridge is built. The operation took less than six hours. Click here for the completion announcement.

Check the Videos page for time-lapse videos of the bridge-moving operation, as well as an animation illustrating the remainder of the bridge replacement process.

All construction is to be substantially complete by March 2011.
