Hwy 101 – Gibsons Way – Safety Improvements

Located within the town of Gibsons from Payne/Pratt Road to North Road.

Revision of the cross section from four lanes to two wide curb lanes, with dedicated left-turn lanes, bus bays and bike facilities. A new signal will be introduced at Sunnycrest Road as well as the timing adjustment of other traffic signals to suit the new corridor configuration.

Scope Description

  • 4 lanes will be converted to 2 through lanes with dedicated left-turn bays.
  • Dedicated left-turn bays at North Road, Elphinstone Secondary School, Shaw Road, Park Road, Gibsons Curling Rink/Swimming Pool, Venture Road and Payne Road.
  • New Traffic Signal at Hwy 101 and Sunnycrest Road
  • Shared and dedicated bike lanes for both directions
  • 5 new bus bays

These improvements to the Highway 101 corridor are designed to increase safety by introducing dedicated left-turn lanes and minimizing access along the corridor.

Work will commence in November 2008 and is to be completed by March 31, 2009.
