Hilltop Road to Balmoral Road
Project Scope
The upgrading of 4.8 km of the Trans Canada Highway, Corridor between Hilltop Rd and Balmoral Rd. These improvements will upgrade the current two and three-lane configuration to a four-lane 100 km/h design standard, while providing access and intersection enhancements. These improvements will address safety issues and provide increased highway capacity and mobility for the Sorrento to Salmon Arm Corridor.
Schedule
- Construction to begin February 2010
- Completed Fall 2011

Benefits
- Four-laning of the Highway 1 will improve safety, mobility, capacity, reduce delays and improve travel times.
- Will provide assured passing opportunities
- Consolidating accesses off the highway will reduce accidents.
- The project will also provide safety improvements such as wider pave shoulders, paved centerline median, rumble strips and roadside barriers.
Cost and Funding
- Total project cost is approximately $25 million.
- The provincial government is investing $15.5 million
- The federal government is investing $9.5 million under the Building Canada Plan.
