Clanwilliam Bridge Replacement
Project Scope
- Four laning approximately 2.3 km of Highway 1 to 100km/h design standards including flush medians, wider shoulders and rumble strips
- Works will require replacing the existing aging overhead, with a new 4 lane crossing the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) mainline
Benefits
- Four-Laning of the Highway 1 will improve safety, mobility and capacity for the travelling public..
- Will provide assured passing opportunities.
- The project will also provide safety improvements, such as wider shoulders, paved centerline median, rumble strips and roadside barrier.
Budget
- Total project cost is : $29M
- The provincial government is investing $15 million
- The federal government is investing $14 million under the Build Canada Fund
Schedule
- Construction started July 2011.
- Anticipated completion November 2012
Current Status
- CEAA approvals in place as well as other environmental approvals
- Contract awarded June 22, 2011 to Arthon Contractors for $18.035M
- Road construction in winter lay-up and will begin again in the Spring of 2012
- Have completed two walls for road improvements as well as a substantial portion of the sub grade construction on the east side of the project.
- Overhead construction progressed until the first week of December before shutting down for winter.
- Have completed the westbound and eastbound south abutments piers and an MSE abutment wall.
- Completed the westbound and eastbound north abutments.
