Pitt River Bridge and Mary Hill Interchange Project

A key goal of the Pitt River Bridge and Mary Hill Interchange Project is to manage traffic flow during construction to maximize predictability and minimize disruption for the travelling public, goods movers, residents, and marine users.

Marine Updates

Construction of the Pitt River Bridge is entering a new phase, with deck sections being raised from barges in the Pitt River shipping channel.  For the next several months, shipping zone closures may be required.  Notice of closures and alternate zones will be posted on a weekly basis.  The river has been divided into two construction zones.

  • Zone 1: Eastern  Zone (45m wide channel) (for light or non-towing traffic only)
  • Zone 2: Western Zone (60m wide channel)
  • Elevation Drawing of zones looking north (PDF, 55KB)

An assist boat will be in the water to direct marine traffic in the area.

Access to one of the zones will be provided at all times.

  • Navigational Closures will be between 2 to 8 hours in duration
  • Closures will be planned for those periods of slack tide as much as possible.

For further information on marine construction work, please contact the Kiewit site office at 604-460-2500 and speak to Dawn Chapman, Onsite Marine Traffic Contact.

Scheduled Marine Closure

The majority of zone closures have now taken place. As a result, beginning April 20, 2009, marine updates will be posted only when there is a closure.

November 2, 2009

  • There will be no activity for this week.

October 26, 2009

Traffic Updates

All lanes will be open between 5 am and 8 pm.

Between 8 pm and 5 am seven days a week, ten minute stoppages of traffic and/ or one lane closures in one or both directions could occur.

The current counterflow system will remain active until the completion of the project.

Reminder: standard width (3.3m) and length (24.3m) restrictions apply during all counterflow operations.

Weekly Schedule

Weekly traffic updates will be provided once construction begins and we will outline planned lane closures, detours and expected delays if any.
