Cariboo Connector Overview [MAP]
The first projects to be completed in the Cariboo Connector strategy
include:
- Dale Lake Road to Dragon Lake Road
- Horse Lake
- Wright Station Curves
- Likely Road to Williams Lake IR – a two kilometre four-laning project from Likely Road intersection to south boundary of Williams Lake Indian Reserve. Highway 97/Likely Road intersection improvements include longer left turn/deceleration lane, and right turn lanes with raised islands. Day Labor construction started October 2008 and is expected to finish by fall 2009.
- 148 Mile to Likely Road – 3.5 km, four lane project fifteen kilometres south of Williams Lake in the community of 150 Mile House from 148 Mile to Likely Road. The design of 4-lane in this section of highway will address growing congestion and protect future mobility and safety as highway development pressures increase in this area. Detailed design is underway and expected to be completed April 2009. Timing of construction is to be determined.
- Simon Fraser Bridge – a bridge twinning and interchange improvement project at Prince George’s Highway 97 gateway. Construction is underway and expected to finish in summer 2009.
Simon Fraser Bridge Construction Cam
- Sintich Road to Fraser River – A five-kilometre, four-lane, multi-phase project in Prince George. A $7.8-million contract was awarded to IDL Projects Inc. of Prince George to construct the first phase.
- Prince George South Weigh Scale Relocation and Associated Four-laning
– design and construction of a new, state-of-the-art weigh scale facility just south of Red Rock on Highway 97. Construction is expected to finish by October 2009.
- Dale Lake Road to Dragon Lake Road
– a 3.2 km, four-lane project south of Quesnel. Work is underway and is expected to finish in Fall 2009.
- Horse
Lake Road (100 Mile House) – an intersection
improvement that is being cost-shared between the Ministry of
Transportation and District of 100 Mile House. Design and Property Acquisition underway. Timing of construction is to be determined. Contaminated soils have been encountered on property needed for the project and require cleanup prior to construction.
- Wright Station Curves
– a four-laning project near Lac La Hache involving significant
safety improvements. Construction is underway and is expected to finish by fall 2009.
- Hixon Bridge – replacement of the two-lane bridge with a four-lane structure, plus 0.7 km of four-laning work will be tendered in late 2008 and finish in Fall 2009.
- Plett Road – a three-kilometre, four-lane project about 35 kms south
of Prince George. A $3.5-million construction contract was
awarded to Integrated Contractors Ltd. of Prince George. The project
was completed in August 2006.
- Fletchers Four-Laning – a 3.5 kilometre, four-lane project south
of Williams Lake. Peter's Bros. Construction Ltd. of Penticton
was awarded a $2.8-million construction contract. Project was
completed autumn 2005.
- Cargyle Curves – A 2.0 km, four lane project fourteen km south of Clinton in the area of Cargyle Curves. The design of 4-lane in this section of highway will provide a southbound passing opportunity, mediate growing congestion and address safety along this vital corridor. Detailed design is complete as of November 2008. Timing of construction is to be determined.
Other Phase 1 projects include:
- Four-laning Cache Creek to Highway 99 junction,
north of Cache Creek.
