Cariboo Connector Overview [MAP]
The first projects to be completed in the Cariboo Connector strategy
include:
- News Release – July 7, 2008 – $4.7M Contract for Simon Fraser Bridge Approaches.
- Simon Fraser Bridge – a bridge twinning and interchange improvement project at Prince George’s Highway 97 gateway. Construction is underway and expected to finish in summer 2009.
Simon Fraser Bridge Construction Cam
- Prince George South Weigh Scale Relocation and Associated Four-laning
– design and construction of a new, state-of-the-art weigh scale facility just south of Red Rock on Highway 97. A construction contract has been tendered. Construction is expected to begin this spring and finish by October 2009.
- Plett Road – a three-kilometre, four-lane project about 35 kms south
of Prince George. A $3.5-million construction contract was
awarded to Integrated Contractors Ltd. of Prince George. The project
was completed in August 2006.
- Dale Lake Road to Dragon Lake Road
– a two-kilometre, four-lane project south of Quesnel. Project
design is underway. Construction is expected to start in spring 2008 and finish by summer 2009.
- Fletchers Four-Laning
– a 3.5 kilometre, four-lane project south
of Williams Lake. Peter's Bros. Construction Ltd. of Penticton
was awarded a $2.8-million construction contract. Project was
completed autumn 2005.
- Horse
Lake Road (100 Mile House) – an intersection
improvement that is being cost-shared between the Ministry of
Transportation and District of 100 Mile House. Design and Property Acquisition underway. Timing of construction is to be determined. Contaminated soils have been encountered on property needed for the project and require cleanup prior to construction.
- Wright Station Curves
– a four-laning project near Lac La Hache involving significant
safety improvements. Design is underway. Construction will begin in 2008 and finish by fall 2009.
Other Phase 1 projects include:
- Four-laning from Simon Fraser Bridge to Sintich
Road in Prince George.
- Four-laning Hixon Bridge north situated in Hixon,
a small community between Prince George and Quesnel.
- Four-laning Williams Lake to 150 Mile House.
- Four-laning Cache Creek to Highway 99 junction,
north of Cache Creek.
- Four-laning at Cargyle Curves north of Cache Creek.
