Highway 97 – SINTICH TO FRASER RIVER – Latest Developments
This part of the Cariboo Connector Program to four-lane Highway 97 is proceeding according to schedule. Improvements will increase the capacity of Highway 97 on this six kilometre section by increasing the existing two and three lane highway to four lanes plus turning lanes.
The work includes grading, paving and electrical works. The intersection at Sintich road will be signalized. A soil-anchored retaining wall will be installed just south of the Continental Way overpass. Other intersection improvements at Pacific Street, Railway Road and Terminal Boulevard will be incorporated.
The project is being delivered in two sections:
- Continental Overpass to Simon Fraser Bridge; and,
- Sintich Road to Continental Overpass
Design for Continental to Simon Fraser Bridge was completed by Ministry engineering. IDL Projects Inc. was awarded a contract valued at $7.8-million for the construction. Work got underway in September of 2008 and will be complete by the fall of this year.
