The new Simon Fraser Bridge will twin the existing bridge and be approximately 390 meters long across the CNR, the Fraser River and Queensway Street. The Simon Fraser Bridge project, located in Prince George, is part of the initial phase of the Cariboo Connector Program to improve Highway 97.

The new Simon Fraser Bridge was designed by Buckland & Taylor Ltd. and is being constructed by Surespan Construction Ltd. Construction began in December 2007 with completion scheduled for summer of 2009.
