Highway 33 — Walker Hill — Climbing Lane
Project Scope
- Construction of a eastbound climbing lane starting from the east end of Hwy 33 Muir to Gallagher project and the climbing lane ending just passed Pyman Road
- Intersection improvements at Brentwood Road and Pyman Road
- Improvements to existing driveways intersecting with the highway
- Construction of a eastbound chain-up area near Brentwood Road
- Construction of a westbound brake check near Pyman Road
- New pavement for all three lanes
- Length of construction is approximately 3 km
Benefits
- Improve safety and mobility for commuter, recreational / tourist and commercial traffic
- Additional passing opportunity will enable more consistent traffic operating speeds and reduce the long vehicle queues behind slow moving trucks. This improvement will assist in the reduction of green house gas emission
Cost and Funding
- This is a Government of Canada Infrastructure Stimulus Funded project.
- The total project value is $5 million
- The provincial government is investing $3 million
- The federal government is investing $2 million.
Project Schedule
- Design and Survey started Summer 2009, complete Spring 2010
- Construction Spring and Summer 2010 Complete Fall 2010
