Highway 33 — Muir to Gallagher Road — Four Laning
Project Scope
- Partnership with the City of Kelowna
- Four lane approximately 4.2 km of Highway 33 between Muir Road and Gallagher RoadÂ
- Full signalization at the intersections with Loseth Road and Gallagher Road
- Left turn lanes in all directions at these intersections
- Intersection upgrades at Muir Road, Springfield Road, Toovey Road, Garner Road and Traut Road
- Illumination along the north side from Muir to Loseth and both sides from Loseth to Gallagher
- Sidewalks separated by a 2 metre wide boulevard along the north side from Muir to Loseth and both sides from Loseth to Gallagher
- Bike lanes adjacent to new four lanes for the full length
- Raised center median at intersections and from Garner Road to Gallagher Road
- Pedestrian underpass at Gopher Creek
Benefits
- Improve safety and mobility for commuter, recreational / tourist and commercial traffic
- Additional lanes will enable traffic to pass slow moving vehicles, improving safety and providing a more consistent operating speeds to assist in the reduction of green house gas emission
Cost and Funding
- The total project is $23.50 million
Project Schedule
- The construction contract was awarded to Peter’s Brothers November 13, 2009.
- Estimated completion date is June 30, 2011.
