Hwy 97 and Hwy 97C

Effective 8:00 AM Tuesday (July 21, 2009)
Highway 97 will be opened to single lane traffic in each direction
with the curbside lanes secured for emergency crews only.
Highway 97C will be open unrestricted, with all four lanes open.
FSR 201 is closed to the public. Industrial use only.
Number routes are recommended for travel as follows:
Merritt to Kelowna area use HWY 5 to Trans Canada HWY 1 to HWY 97 via the Monte Creek turn off at Kamloops.
Kelowna to Summerland use HWY 33 to HWY 3 and follow the signs to Osoyoos to HWY 97.
Summerland and points south use HWY 97 south to HWY 3 to HWY 33 at Rock Creek to Kelowna.
Merritt to Penticton use HWY 5A at Aspen Grove to Princeton to HWY 3 to Keremeos and north to HWY 3A.
Alternate route between Penticton and HWY 33 via McCulloch Road/201 FSR is available for traffic under GVW 27,000 KG. This road is restricted and recommended for light vehicles only. Maintenance staff and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Officers are performing 24 hour patrols along this FSR road. Expect heavy traffic and unpaved road. Watch for work crews, cattle and wildlife.
Overhead highway signs, portable message boards and staffed check points are in place to provide route information. Please drive with caution, obey signs and traffic control persons.
Approximate Travel Times:
Osoyoos to Kelowna (travelling East) via HWY 3 – HWY 33, is approximately 186 km, 2 ½ hours.
Penticton to Kelowna (travelling East) via HWY 97S – HWY 3 – HWY 33, is approximately 242 km, 3 ¼ hours.
Merrit to Penticton via HWY 5A, is approximately 155 km, 1 ½ hours.
Merrit to Kelowna via HWY 5 – HWY 1 – HWY 97N, is approximately 252 km, 3 hours.
Penticton to Kelowna via 201 FSR, is approximately 100 km, 2 hrs
