Overview
The Fraser Valley is one of the fastest growing areas in British Columbia. It is an important transportation corridor and economic centre.
Over the next 20 years, the region’s economy and population is expected to grow by 70 per cent. This growth represent an opportunity for local governments, the Province of British Columbia, BC Transit and TransLink, to work together to expand transit, made up of a range of green travel options aimed at getting people out of their cars, into public transit to increase ridership and reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions.
To assist local governments with transit planning, the Province of British Columbia, guided by the goals of the Provincial Transit Plan, undertook a Strategic Review of Transit in the Fraser Valley. The report was released December 16, 2010. The study was completed in cooperation with the Fraser Valley Regional District, BC Transit and TransLink as well as the Fraser Valley municipalities and the public.
The study examines current and future transit service and presents ideas and concepts that would improve service and encourage people to choose transit over driving. The communities included in the Fraser Valley study are: Mission, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Kent, Harrison Hot Springs, and Hope.
