Land Title Act: The Land Title Act is the main statute regulating how the rights to land are bought and sold in British Columbia. Among many other things, it sets out the rules for the subdivision of land. The Act falls primarily under the administration of the Minister of Sustainable Resource Management.


Land Use Contracts: Contracts similar to current Development Permits but no longer permitted to be created under the Local Government Act.


Local government: A term referring to Regional Districts, Islands Trust, or municipalities.


Local Government Act: Local governments and their powers are created by the provincial government under the Local Government Act. The extent of municipal authority is defined in the Local Government Act and other provincial legislation.


Local roads: Roads that provide access to properties fronting directly on the road as well as to lands beyond, in accordance with Section 75(1)(a)(ii) of the Land Title Act.
